2019 SENIOR
MAKAYLA
Ahh, August. My favorite month of the year. It might have something to do with my horoscope, but I’ve always loved the way this month feels, so full of new beginnings. I often get a new planner this time of year based on the ‘Academic Year.’ Its like a golden opportunity to press the reset button on all those New Year’s Resolutions that have been collecting a bit of dust lately. (The best intentions…)The beginning of a new school year is something I STILL look forward too. I was the girl who patiently waited all summer for fresh, shiny folders (that I would soon adorn with puffy stickers), 88 brand spanking new Crayola crayons (with the sharpener included right in the box… bonus) and any Lisa Frank must-have anything I could get my hands on.
I traded my love of Mr. Sketch scented markers for calligraphy pens (dust collected resolution #3, learn the art of hand-lettering), and I’m so ready to get back into more of a routine. This summer was crazy busy and I’m craving some more scheduled days. I spent the last few months beginning to work with the next class of future grads and let me tell you, they are one phenomenal group of seniors. As a parent of a Class of 2019 grad, I know I’m completely and totally biased, but they are just some pretty cool kids.
I will be experiencing all these firsts and lasts with my senior parents this year. Today… it was the last “first day of school” picture. Of course, the photographer’s kid was not loving the attention from my DSLR in the early morning hours. I was given approximately 27 seconds to snag what I needed. Just thinking about all the final milestones my son will go through this year makes me a bit emotional. I now completely understand how easy it is for my parents to tear up during their kiddo’s session (or again on my ‘therapy’ couch at your Selection Appointment). I’m right there with you.
Makayla was the first senior I had the privilege of capturing this year, and the rest of the words you see below are from the people that know her best.

Makayla, how quickly this senior year has come! Being your parent has been so very rewarding! From cheerleading, show choir, tennis, and you beginning your journey to becoming a medical professional – it has been a privilege to watch you do what you enjoy. You are fun loving, bright, enjoy a challenge, talented, and most importantly you have the most caring heart!!
