Here is a preview of Ben’s summer session. It was hotter than should be allowed, yet Ben still managed to pull off a completely styled, layered look. I loved the entire vibe he had going on from head to toe. I’m often asked what is ‘appropriate’ to wear for senior pics and at times, struggle with an answer. ‘Appropriate’ is a word too frequently associated with dress codes. It’s almost taken on negative tone. When I meet with my seniors prior to their session, we chat about many things. Their personality, style, goals for their session… yet most of the conversation centers around what to wear. It is by far the single biggest stress factor related to the session itself, at least as far as parents and seniors are concerned. So, I’ve compiled five helpful tips that I hope help will reduce the stress of pulling together a photogenic wardrobe. Although, I can’t promise there won’t be disagreements when making those final selections;)

1. Make your session wardrobe an extension of your natural style. This is not a time to try out a new look.

2. Keep it layered, yet simple. Layers and accessories give us the flexibility to make changes on the fly without completely changing outfits.

3. Create your color palette and stick to it. Red and Teal? Not on the same team. It’s often helpful to lay your wardrobe on the bed to see if everything coordinates well.

4. Don’t try on an outfit for the first time when you are completing a quick change in the back of a car. Seriously. It might not fit well and that is a real bummer when you try to get out of the car. [It’s happened]. Choose pieces that accentuate the features you love and also allow for movement.

5. Seniors, go ahead and throw the shirt in that your parents are insisting on. Parents, allow your senior to have input. This is their session. You may not love an outfit they have chosen, but it’s probably ‘them’ and they will be more relaxed in front of the camera when they are comfortable.
