Ashley,

It has been such a gift to be your parents. From your early and somewhat unexpected arrival to your senior year, you have blessed our family in countless ways. You have also given much to those around you – people and animals – and you have truly made the world a better place.

You have a unique personality, and you have embraced that every step of the way. From the time you were young you have exhibited a self-confidence rarely seen in our world today. You have owned every part of who you are, and you have used those gifts in a positive way. You are deeply empathic, often sensing what others cannot, and you will advocate for those in need. You have a strong sense of identity and a commitment to helping others. You have found purpose and identify in your faith, and we love stumbling across your verses and reminders. But the best part is that you take those things seriously – we have seen your heart break for those who are hurting, and we have watched you step in to support those in need. You always act with integrity, a quality rarely seen in somebody so young, and your maturity has far exceeded your age for many years. You are also insightful, often reminding us to see the other side of an issue. From the beginning, you have needed time alone to recharge and you will advocate for yourself to make that happen. But you are also funny – you have been the first to make us laugh countless times, and we love your quirky sense of humor – even at top volume!

It would be impossible to describe you without mentioning your deep love for animals. Your horses, cats, and dogs are all deeply connected to you. We have often referred to you as the animal whisperer because your calm, loving personality has allowed you to form bonds with all of the animals in your life. Your horses have taught you a great many lessons, many of them difficult, but they are far more than a means to an end for you – they are your best friends and your family. You advocate for animals the same way you advocate for people and we cannot wait to watch your future as a wildlife conservationist unfold.

We have absolutely loved being your parents and you have completed our family in the most unique way. You are compassionate, you are dedicated, and you are an advocate. We have no doubt that these gifts will serve you well, and that you will make the world a better place – for people and for animals. We have often said that to know you is to love you, and we are so proud. We love you endlessly.
